Grumpy SeagullsSeagulls in the sunrise
Sit in grumpy bunches on the beach. Reluctant to move, as you approach They walk a little out of reach. They look so 'morning after' Heavy headed in the early morning light. In fact they look so bloody awful It makes you wonder what the seagulls do at night. Chorus Seagulls. pretty seagulls Looking pretty seedy in the early morning light. Seagulls, pretty seagulls. Don't you wonder what the seagulls do at night? Do they have all-night parties Going on until the early morning hours, Getting high on rotting fish And turning on their little minds with herbal flowers. You might stop to wonder What they do until the sun begins to rise, But there's not much point in asking 'Cos what they say is just a pack of lies. |
About the songI wrote this song in the mid eighties after walking along a beach on Kangaroo Island at sunrise near my parent's home. Hundreds of seagulls escorted me along the beach, carefully staying just out of reach.
My Dad was having a hard time waiting for his multiple bypass surgery and I thought to cheer my parents up by writing something humorous. The odd behaviour of seagulls the world over tickled my funny bone that morning. Dad enjoyed the song. Mum's response was 'Oh Ian, they're just cold that's all'. Tough audience! |
